PITTSBURGH -- American soccer phenom and Hershey native Christian Pulisic has become an international soccer star playing for Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga which airs on FOX 53.

Now Pulisic will take his talents to the top soccer league in the world.

His German team has announced an agreement with London club Chelsea to send Pulisic to the English Premier League immediately in a reported $74 million mega-deal.

Chelsea has agreed to pay a transfer fee of more than $50 million, making this the most expensive deal ever for an American player, according to reports. The announcement and terms of the deal were posted on Borussia Dortmund's website Wednesday morning.

The 20-year-old winger - who is the son of Pittsburgh Riverhounds assistant coach Mark Pulisic - will finish out the current season with Dortmund before joining Chelsea this summer in time for the 2019-2020 season.

Pulisic posted a heartfelt message to German soccer fans on his official Twitter account.

"It has always been Christian's big dream to play in Premier League," Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc was quoted on the team website.

"This certainly has something to do with his American origin and thus we were not able to prolong his contract."

An eventual transfer to the English Premier League, regarded as the top competition in the world, was seen as a foregone conclusion for Pulisic who burst onto the international soccer scene as a young teenager.

Pulisic had the chance to play in front of his Pennsylvania fans this past summer when Heinz Field hosted an International Champions Cup match between Dortmund and S.L. Benfica on July 25.

Watch Pulisic's final season in the Bundesliga on FOX 53.
