PITTSBURGH -- South Fayette is doing just fine in its new classification, the WPIAL's Class 5A, producing a few highlight reel worthy plays along the way.
The Lions put on an impressive performance in this week's AHN Friday Night Rivals matchup on 22 The Point, overcoming a stout West Allegheny defense in a 38-14 victory with senior Charley Rossi played a starring role.
Quarterback Naman Alemada hit Rossi for a 7-0 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Shay Aitken then added a touchdown run to make it 14-0 capping an 81-yard drive early in the second quarter.
Then Alemada found Rossi again, this time a dazzling catch over double coverage at the goal line that would make Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss proud.
The second quarter touchdown grab gave the Lions a quick 21-0 lead.
West Allegheny found the end zone late in the second quarter, with Gavin Miller hitting Jashon Spencer who used his speed to beat the defense to the pylon.
However, the Lions took a 24-7 lead into halftime.
West Allegheny surprised South Fayette with an onside kick recovery to open the second half, but the Lions defense held and forced a punt.
South Fayette's defense then came up with back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns from Tristan Bedillion and Rossi, his third touchdown of the night to extend the lead to 38-7 in the fourth quarter.
West Allegheny added a late fourth quarter score, with Miller connecting with Spencer a second time.
