PITTSBURGH -- As the 2020 Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC season restarts, 22 The Point is proud to be a broadcast partner with the local USL club, carrying 11 regular season matchups.

In addition to the regular season broadcasts, each month during the season Marketplace Pittsburgh will feature a Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Player Profile.

This month's Player Profile segment features defender Ryan James.

James joins 22 The Point's Jordan Conigliaro to talk about the team's recent success, his spectacular goal this season and growing up playing soccer in Canada.

Ryan James returns to Pittsburgh for the 2020 season, his second straight campaign with the club.

The defender was a workhorse on the Riverhounds backline in 2019, making 34 appearances (31 starts) and logging 2,831 minutes on the year. He also finished the season with a career-high five assists.

While playing for Nashville SC in 2018, the defender started 11 of his 16 appearances with the USL Championship side, totaling 30 clearances and 32 interceptions in 1,011 minutes.

James began his professional career with the Rochester Rhinos, which he played two seasons for from 2016-17. During his two campaigns with the Rhinos, James posted one goal and three assists in 60 regular season games played. In 2017, he led the club with 34 appearances and 2,983 minutes, including two postseason starts.

Prior to joining Rochester, the Bowling Green State University product was selected 52nd overall by Sporting Kansas City in the third round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He did not play a match with the MLS side.

While competing as a midfielder at Bowling Green from 2012-15, the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada native started 69 of his 79 games played en route to racking up nine goals, 15 assists and 33 points in his collegiate career. He was named All-Mac Second Team during both his junior and senior campaigns.
