FNR REPLAY: Pine-Richland scores key conference win over Central Catholic

Pine-Richland's position as the top team in the WPIAL's largest class was reaffirmed this past Friday, LIVE on 22 the Point in a Week 5 C. The Rams raced out to a 35-7 first quarter lead over Pittsburgh Central Catholic behind four touchdowns from running back Luke Meckler, and then stayed in front for a 42-21 victory over the Vikings.

PITTSBURGH -- Pine-Richland's position as the top team in the WPIAL's largest class was reaffirmed this past Friday, LIVE on 22 the Point in a Week 5 C. Harper Auto Group Powered by IGS Energy Friday Night Rivals broadcast.

The Rams raced out to a 35-7 first quarter lead over Pittsburgh Central Catholic behind four touchdowns from running back Luke Meckler, and then stayed in front for a 42-21 victory over the Vikings.

In addition to his four scores, Meckler piled up 245 rushing yards in the first quarter alone behind one of the top offensive lines in the state which features two Division I commits. Meckler finished the night with 280 rushing yards.

Central Catholic picked up the pace and outscored Pine-Richland 14-7 over the final three quarters but couldn't overcome the early deficit.

"Hats off to Central Catholic, that's a good, tough football team," Pine-Richland Head Coach Eric Kasperowicz said in the postgame trophy presentation on 22 the Point.

"I'm sure they'll be there in the end and hopefully we'll get to see them again. I can't be more proud of my guys, my staff and the senior class with how hard they worked to get this win. "

Pine-Richland improves to 5-1, while Central Catholic falls to 4-2.

This week's Friday Night Rivals broadcast on 22 the Point features Franklin Regional hosting Gateway, live at 7 p.m.
