WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- Automaker General Motors is considering a new program that would allow car owners to rent out their own cars in an Airbnb-like way, reports Bloomberg.
When you're not using your car, you would be able to let someone else use it and earn money. The ability to rent out your vehicle would happen through a platform known as Maven. Drivers who rent their cars would share revenue with GM.
The pilot program is expected to begin this summer but there is no word on where exactly it would be tested. Maven currently rents vehicles to drivers and lends cars to employees of specific companies such as Uber and Lyft.
Startups such as Turo and Getaround already offer similar services at the moment.
