PITTSBURGH -- Docked along the Ohio River on Pittsburgh's Northshore is the Carnegie Science Center's USS Requin submarine.
Commissioned in 1945, the USS Requin sailed around the world for over two decades serving lengthy defense and scientific missions.
In 1990 Senator John Heinz introduced a bill which brought the sub to Pittsburgh.
Now at the Carnegie Science Center she serves a wonderful new purpose, educating visitors to Pittsburgh about life aboard a Cold War-era submarine.
Carnegie Science Center Submarine Coordinator Maria Renzelli recently appeared on "Marketplace Pittsburgh" to discuss the history of the USS Requin and how it made a permanent home in Pittsburgh.
For more information and to schedule a tour visit the Carnegie Science Center online and watch "Marketplace Pittsburgh" every Sunday at 8 p.m. on 22 the Point.
