PITTSBURGH -- The Washington Salvation Army is hosting its inaugural Superhero Drive-Thru event on Saturday, July 11 at Camp Agape in Hickory, Pa., where kids of all ages will have a chance to meet their favorite superheroes and princesses at a safe social distance while taking a treat bag home.
There is no fee to attend but a suggested donation of any amount upon entrance will support the purchase of back-to-school items for local children in need this fall.
The event runs from 1-3 p.m. and local first responders will also be on hand to greet guests.
“This event will be fun for the whole family, while also giving everyone the chance to maintain social-distancing, and support a wonderful cause,” said Captain Amber Imhoff, Commanding Officer of the Washington Salvation Army Worship and Service Center.
“We encourage families to come out, meet their heroes, and take home a treat bag.
"In today’s world, we know the extra stress people face, and hope the Superhero Drive-Thru will provide a light-hearted getaway for the afternoon.”
For those who cannot attend but would like to make a financial donation, they can be made online at Salvationarmywpa.org/superhero.
A $25 donation will provide a backpack and school supplies while a $60 donation will supply shoes for a child in our community.
Last year, the Washington Salvation Army provided 409 backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies to local children.
Three hundred teacher supply boxes among 8 schools were provided to ensure teachers had the tools they needed to provide the best instruction, while 207 children received vouchers for new shoes and 79 volunteers helped coordinate back-to-school shopping trips.
Donations can be mailed, shipped or dropped off at The Washington Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, located at 60 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301.
