PITTSBURGH -- The AHN Friday Night Rivals Powered by IGS Energy season continues Friday featuring Knoch hosting New Castle with playoff positioning at stake. The live coverage kicks off at 7 p.m. on 22 the Point and streaming on 22thepoint.com.

A year ago, Knoch defeated New Castle 24-21, but then missed out on a playoff berth due to a points-based tiebreaker system, while the Hurricanes advanced to the postseason with an identical 3-4 conference record.

The recent history isn't lost on these two programs as they get set to square off again Friday night in Saxonburg.

With the Knights entering the contest at 5-2 overall, 4-2 and in second place in the Class 4A Northwest Eight Conference standings, while the Hurricanes are sitting at 4-3, 2-2 and in fourth place in the standings, Friday's result will once again impact the 2019 playoffs.

Under new head coach Brandon Mowry, Knoch continues to implement its triple-option offense after studying how Army, Navy, Georgia Tech and other college programs have executed it.

The new system paid immediate dividends in 2018, with running back Matt Goodlin breaking the school record for rushing yards in a season.

Now a senior, Goodlin will once again lead the Knights ground attack, as New Castle's defense will look to get early stops in an effort to even the time of possession battle.

While a postseason berth was ultimately decided on paper last year, Knoch and New Castle will look to settle the score on the field Friday night.
